What is Parents as Teachers?

Parents as Teachers is a state funded program for families who are expecting a baby within three months, or for those who have a child or children between the ages of zero and five.  Families must reside within the Wesclin School District.

There are no income guidelines, and all services are offered to the family free of charge.  This program is voluntary and families may participate as much or as little in the activities as their schedules allow.

Parents are the first and most important teacher a child will ever have.  They are a source of love, learning, and support for their children.  With this in mind, Parents as Teachers will assist parents in developing the skills and confidence they need to promote their child’s healthy development.

Parents as Teachers is a home-based program in which teaching is individualized for each child’s needs.  Through discussion you will learn about the importance of typical everyday activities like talking and reading to your child.

Parents will improve their child’s motivation to learn, increase their self esteem, and thus enhance school readiness.

Program Includes:

       Home Visits

       Monthly Newsletters

       Parent Meetings

       Play Groups

       Field Trips

       Developmental Screenings

Toy, book, puzzle, video and parent resource lending libraries

Parents may call the Parents as Teachers office with parenting questions or concerns.

Linkages are available with other health, educational, and social services in the community.
